Fuck MTV, always Fuck MTV. Indy Bands used to be the enemy of bullshit capitalist empty PROGRAMING! What is happening?!!! I hate when the system dumbs down the next wave of cool!! It dangles like a diamond in the hearts of those who could make a change but chase a manufactured dream of success that will never be reached unless your willing to sell an idea that will keep people spending and stupid. Go ahead children! “They” have been successful at COINTELPRO for years. Infiltrating, disrupting, marginalizing, and/or subverting youth groups power for real social change.

First of all, the people criticizing Team Robespierre need to shut the fuck up- TR is a band is hustling, making good music, throwing parties and having fun. They were excited about the great response to their video… there’s nothing wrong with that. This was an unfortunate situation of a cool band being screwed over by MTV’s corporate censored bullshit. Period. Thanks for coming forward with this story- instead of being lost in the abyss of “cool bands that get fucked by the record industry” this is now a tangible story that can inform everyone else to not get stars in their eyes and waste money on trying to cater to MTV’s bullshit. Television is a dying beast- let’s use a nail gun on that coffin!

also, if i was about to spend 600 bones, i think i’d have the “what if it doesn’t air?” discussion with bandmates, cos, come on, it’s not like you had a contract.

I agree with other comments.
This is business you’re in.
If you can’t cut it, then get out or come up with your own music channel or way to trump MTV. Don’t whine about other people’s agendas or policies.

You did get a response from MTV and it was timely, just because it wasn’t what you hoped it would be doesn’t make it their fault. Be a professional and live up to the fact that they wanted edits made and if $600 was too much of a cost to you, you shouldn’t be trying to submit in the first place. P.S. The song is horrible.

You need to get over the issue of captioning. You’re making TV content and we caption TV content. Somebody’s got to pay for it, and MTV used its power to make you do it. Yes, deaf people provably do watch music videos. I should know; I’m one of the three people who got the whole idea of captioned music videos up and running circa 1989.

I agree with most of the postings already. Who needs MTV anymore? I think, arguably, getting your video on Pitchfork was a much bigger step than MTV, in terms of people your video will be reaching. I can’t remember the last time I watched MTV… I don’t even think about it anymore.

Welcome to the real world. It sounds like MTV at least returned your calls and emails, I’m surprised they did that. I was in a band for six years and spent thousands of dollars on equipment and presses and merch and never got half as close as this. Grow a pair and figure out a way of marketing your band without a pity party.
