This is one of my favorite ever songs! As a bass player and Motown lover, I can tell you that Wilton Felder is emulating the style of James Jamerson. Jamerson was the resident bassist in the legendary house band of Motown: The Funk Brothers. Jamerson was the first virtuoso of electric bass whose innovative style set the standard for rock bass playing.
