When asked to record a debut album, Bucks County, PA’s Illinois handed over a hard drive containing 114 (yes, one hundred and fourteen) songs — a manic mix of banjo-laced saloon anthems, hip hop beats, rip-roaring electric guitar riffs, and tender acoustic soul-searching. So they created The Adventures of Kid Catastrophe, a multi-platform project that includes releasing a short film every month for the next six months. Each chapter of the short film comes with a 3-song EP with physical copies of the Kid Catastrophe project will be available via custom USB flash drives with chapters 1 and 2 pre-loaded, with subsequent chapters available for free download.
The first chapter was released back on November 4 with the second installment due out next Tuesday, December 2, but you don’t have to wait until next week to check out the single “She’s So Blonde”. The songs this month are a bit more seething than the last batch, painting a vivid portrait of a man emotionally abandoned.
