Pumpkins to Smash last two shows in sweet home Chicago

The Smashing Pumpkins played their very first show at the Cabaret Metro on
October 5, 1988. The Chicago crew at the time consisted of Billy Corgan, James
Iha, Darcy Wretzky, and Jimmy Chamberlain. In twelve years time the
Pumpkins have gone on to play 900 shows all around the world (and Cleveland).
They have recorded 160 songs, sold over 25 million records, and have decided to
play their final (yes this time it’s really final) two shows in their hometown of
Chicago Illinois.

The 20,000 seat United Center on Nov. 29, the 1,000 capacity Metro on Dec 2, will
be the final two live romps for Alternative Rock’s true pioneers. Tickets for both
shows go on sale on Saturday (Oct. 21) through Ticketmaster and the United
Center box office. The band made the announcement from France where they are
currently playing their farewell European tour.

Recently the Pumpkins (now with Melissa Auf Der Maur on bass) released Machina 2 – Friends and Enemies of Modern Music for free on the internet. A few copies were pressed on vinyl for family and friends with instructions to copy the music and send free mp3’s out into the world wide web. Machina 2 is supposed to be the Pumpkins last studio record ever. Keep a close eye on Corgan’s Constantinople web site and record label.
