Weezer come out of hibernation

Everyone’s favorite geek-rock hermits, Weezer, have announced plans for a two-month US tour early in 2001 — how positively social of the elusive band!? They’ve been tapped to headline the second annual Yahoo! Outloud tour, which kicks off on Feb. 21 in Austin, Texas, and covers the South, Northeast and Midwest before wrapping up in California in March. Opening acts have not been announced yet, and tickets will not go on sale until sometime next year, although Yahoo! will make some tickets available online in advance. Plans for Weezer to hit the road come as they prepare to record their first album since 1996’s Pinkerton.


They’ll be heading into the studio with producer Ric Ocasek in early December, and plan to release the album on Interscope/Geffen Records in the spring 2001.Ex-Car Ocasek produced Weezer’s very successful 1994 self-titled debut. Dates for the Yahoo! Outloud tour with Weezer are as follows:
