Tonight the Smashing Pumpkins will play one of two final home shows in Chicago. The show will be broadcast on Q101’s web site (www.q101.com) beginning at 12 midnight. The actual performance starts two hours late. As you could imagine, tickets for these two shows (tonight-United Center. Saturday-Metro) are selling from $700 – 1,000 for these once in a lifetime shows. One fan bought two tickets for the Metro show which turned out to be counterfeits, whipping lifetime fans and promoters into a deeper frenzy.
According to CNN, Billy Corgan, the Smashing Pumpkins main dude, says he’s heading into the future with some trepidation. “I haven’t been this unstable in seven, eight years,” he tells the Chicago Tribune. “The band coming to an end is a very stressful idea to me. I know it’s the right thing, but I’m wondering what it means.” Corgan plans to take a year off to “create a little bit of space between me and what people think of me.” [Corgan reportedly said,] “I want to be sure if I play music again that I’m really confident about what I’m doing.”
