Badly Drawn Boy Gets The Boot For New Years

Badly Drawn Boy kicked 2001 off with a bottle, and five songs into his hour long set, his audience showed an arsenal of bottles themselves. The 2000 Mercury Prize winner pissed off his Manchester audience so much with his drunken ramblings that fans threw bottles at the performer, and caused him to leave during his performance of The Shining. Throughout the festive show Damon Gough (BDB) threatened random audience members and even poked fun at Finley Quaye, pretending to call him on his cell phone.

Stumbling and fumbling, Gough even dedicated one song to “everyone out there who’s done ecstasy….you fucking sad wankers.” The Badly Drawn one spoke with NME after the show and thought Gough said that he thought it was “a
pretty good gig” despite the onslaught of bottles and shrugged off the incident: “It just fucked me off. But it’s New Year, everyone’s got an agenda and an attitude. You still get bottled in Chorley town centre – it’s no different to anywhere else.”
