Napster Secures Landmark Deal With AIM

In a landmark deal, Napster has secured the rights to countless songs belonging to hundreds of independent record labels in the UK and Europe. The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has signed over their label rosters in this worldwide licensing deal. Entire catalogs from indie-label bands such as the Stereophonics, Moby, Underworld, and Basement Jaxx will be made available on the file-swapping site when the new subscription service begins late this summer. The official statement reads: “The agreement has at once authorized use of hundreds of thousands of tracks belonging to hundreds of independent record labels across Europe and helped srcure the future of Napster’s file-sharing community when its membership based service launches this summer.”
