PJ, Radiohead, Gorillaz Top Mercury Nominees

Since there simply aren’t enough prizes given out these days, the nominees for the UK’s prestigious Mercury Music Prize (the winner gets 20,000 quid) were announced yesterday – and they are ñ drum roll please: Basement Jaxx’s Rooty; Ed Harcourt’s Here Be Monsters; Elbow’s Asleep In The Back; Goldfrapp’s Felt Mountain; Gorillaz Gorillaz; PJ Harvey’s Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea; Radiohead’s Amnesiac; Super Furry Animals’ Rings Around The World; Susheela Raman’s Salt Rain; Tom McRae’s Tom McRae; Turin Brakes’ The Optimist LP;and
Zero 7’s Simple Things. Craig David, Robbie Williams and U2 are a few of the artists expected to appear who haven’t been nominated. Last year’s winner was Badly Drawn Boy’s The Hour Of The Bewilderbeast.
