Green Day Hits Package, DVD, New Album In Works

Berkeley (well, Rodeo, CA, but who’s counting?) punk superstars Green Day are readying their
first greatest hits collection to unleash upon the masses this fall. Entitled International Superhits, the
CD on Reprise Records will contain 19 of their snackiest tidbits, culled from 1994’s Dookie, 1995’s
Insomniac, 1997’s Nimrod, and 2000’s Warning, including “Longview,” “Welcome To
Paradise,” and “Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance).” Two new songs, which will be recorded in the Bay
Area in September, will also be part of the extravaganza, which will also feature a concurrently released, yet
sold separately, DVD.

The trio is keeping busy in the meantime by readying their 5th studio album and working on side projects.
They have written 7 songs and have another 3 in various states of completion for the album on Reprise,
and are aiming for a late 2002 release. Don’t expect a carbon copy of last year’s acoustically driven
Warning, however. The new album should be a guitar heavy explosion, along the lines of their
earlier major label releases. Meanwhile, bassist Mike Dirnt is finishing up the sophomore album from his
project, The Frustrators, called Achtung Jackass, for release on singer Billie Joe
Armstrong’s wife’s Adeline label, while Armstrong himself is working on further Pinhead
Gunpowder material. Those silly punk rock kids: when they’re not being accused of pooping off of hotel balconies, they’re writing 3 records at once.
