U2 Calls For Peace In Northern Ireland

The first UK date of U2’s “Elevation” world tour saw frontman Bono calling for peace in Northern Ireland, which is currently teetering at a critical crossroads with political parties in deadlock and violence escalating. At Saturday’s (August 11) show at Manchester Evening News Arena, Bono told the sold out crowd that “compromise is not such a bad word after all,” and further stated that “our prayer is that this week brave people make brave decisions and this little island across the little channel does not go back to war.” This week is extremely important for Northern Ireland as the Stormont Assenbly is reconvening to discuss the ongoing troubles and how to come to some compromise.
