As previously reported, NYC band, The Strokes, have been embroiled in controversy over in the ole UK with a major retailer (Woolworths) over the cover art to their debut record, Is This It ó the cover depicts a woman’s naked derriere with her leather-gloved hand resting on it. Well, the feisty band’s (or rather, their record label’s) spirit has been broken and they’ve decided to completely change the artwork for the record’s U.S. release on September 25, avoiding any more retail controversy which could hurt sales…or send them through the roof. The new artwork is a yellow and teal gothic-esque pattern with nary a bare ass in sight. B-O-R-I-N-G. A spokesperson for the band denies that the artwork switch had anything to do with the UK controversy: “There’s no story. The band just wanted a different sleeve for their US release. They really like this image.”
