Jason Newsted, the former Metallica bassist, has signed on with Canadian thrash metalists Voivod. He will not only play bass with his new head-banging buddies, but will also co-produce the new album. Despite breaking up earlier this year, Voivod drummer Michel Langevin and Guitarist Denis DíAmour have reunited with original singer Denis Belanger after a seven-year absence to forge ahead with the band. Newsted and Belanger are required to take the place of vocalist-bassist Eric Forrest. Newsted will not tour with the band when the record is released sometime in 2002. The bassistís other project, EchoBrain, recently made its live debut in San Fran.
