PJ Harvey Wins Mercury Award in Wake of Tragedy

PJ Harvey won the Mercury Award for best album yesterday but was unable to accept the award as she was detained in the US due to yesterdayís tragedy. The British singer-songwriter told the Mercury Award ceremony in London by telephone from Washington, “It has been a very surreal day. All I can say is thank you very much. I am absolutely stunned.” Harvey, who has been nominated for the prize on two previous occasions, finally gets to take it home. Other acts nominated this year were Radiohead, Elbow, Turin Brakes and Zero 7.
