Rock Hall of Fame Recognizes Punk, Ramones and Pistols On The Ballot

Punk rock pioneers the Sex Pistols and the Ramones both share the ballot of the 2002 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination ballot along with more mainstream acts such as Jackson Browne and Tom Petty. Chances are both punk bands will not be elected this year, but it would make for one memorable all-star jam session. The Sex Pistols, who only recorded one album in their short career, might be a little too anti-establishment for the typically conservative Rock Hall. The Ramones, however, recorded tirelessly for two decades, and have the sympathy of the industry following the death of singer Joey Ramone, who lost the battle with lymphoma on April 15.

The ballot contains other first time nominees the Talking Heads, funk-soul legend Isaac Hayes, alt-country maverick Gram Parsons, ë60s teen-pop princess Gene Pitney, R&B girl group the Chantels and doo-wop acts the Dells ad the “5″ Royales.AC/DC, Patti Smith, Brenda Lee, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Sabbath, who have been up for honor once before, round out the 2002 nominations.
