New Material From The White Stripes

Europeís favorite Detroit rock duo, the White Stripes, have announced via their website that they are preparing a string of new releases to help us cope with the winter doldrums. The first will be a CD single for “Hotel Yorba” and will feature the previously unreleased b-side, “Rated X,” which was actually recorded in a room at Detroitís own Hotel Yorba. The single will also feature the video for “Hotel Yorba” in enhanced multimedia form. The CD, also be available in seven-inch (sans video), is being released at home by Third Man Recordings and abroad by XL. As if that isnít enough to look forward to, the Stripes will be reissuing their long out-of-print, second-ever seven-inch, “Lafayette Blues,” originally limited to only 500 copies. Like the first edition, it will contain the b-side “Sugar Never Tasted So Good,” a song that is also available on their 1999 debut. The duo is also reissuing their first-ever seven-inch, “Letís Shake Hands,” which features a fabulous cover of the Marlene Dietrich classic, “Look Me Over Closely.” Both of these seven-inches will be released by their original label, the Detroit-based Italy Records. No official release dates have been listed but look for them by the end of this year.

The White Stripes are also preparing to cross the Atlantic for a short UK tour, during which they will be accompanied by fellow Motor City upstarts, the Von Bondies. But before they embark, the duo will play two hometown shows at the Detroit Institute of Art.
