Remy Zero greeted the sold out crowd in the dark, as a simple strand of white lights illuminated the kick drum, scored by the eerie dark programming of “The Golden Hum”. The band quickly traced their roots to 1998’s Villa Elaine, when they reanimated “Prophecy”, the albums most lucrative gem. “Bitter” came in next, introducing the audience to the band’s latest record, The Golden Hum, which dominated most of the set as expected. Every smash single was laid out for all to enjoy, “Glorious #1″, “Save Me” and the depressing yet uplifting ode to singer Cinjun Tate’s father, “Perfect Memory”. Cinjun performed the song solo on a smashing blue acoustic guitar for most of the song, before the rest of the band came in towards the end to help his close the number, and possibly another chapter in front man’s life. Although crammed on stage, Cinjun had great presence, reaching for either a beer or a smoke in between songs, and pointing ever so weirdly as his voice filled the room during each number. Remy Zero delivered a superb showcase, although they could have stepped up the energy and decibels a tad. The Golden Hum isn’t that much of a balls out rock record which is why the stage didn’t end up trashed and on fire, but Remy Zero will continue to walk down a road that few band can only dream of, holding their talented and innovative heads high.
