Sigur Ros Dive Into New Album

With their first album garnering critical and popular acclaim, Icelandís second favorite native sons, Sigur Ros, are pulling out all of the stops for their next record. In their ongoing effort to be weirder than Bj?rk, Sigur Ros have announced plans to record the follow-up to ¡gÊtis Byrjun in an indoor swimming pool converted into a recording studio. The sub-zero temperatures of Iceland really put a damper on the swimming pool business, as more popular leisure activities include whaling, dog sled racing, and huddling around a fire saying “why the hell do I live here.” As a result, the owner of Thorís Indoor Pool was happy to rent it out to some tripped out musician types. The as-yet-untitled new album is due out in fall 2002 via MCA and will once again feature producer Ken Thomas calling the shots.
