Creed, DMB, STP, Foos To Play the Olympics

There is nothing that embodies the spirit of the greatest athletes in the world engaged in civilizationís oldest organized competition than some out-of-shape, un-athletic, rock stars pretending their legs are made of jello (yes Matthews I mean you). Seriously though, NBC has jumped on the televised musical extravaganza bandwagon for this yearís winter Olympics telecasts. In case youíve been on Mars, this yearís competition will be held in Salt Lake City, and will be televised, thankfully without a 12 hour delay, on NBC. The Dave Matthews Band will kick off a string of musical performances on February 9 which will be followed by 15 other nightly concerts held in the Olympics Medal Plaza. A full line-up announcement is scheduled for next Tuesday. Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and the Foo Fighters are all official, but no word on their performance dates. Just in case your making plans, I’ll warn you that February 24 would be a good day to do anything but watch the Olympics as Richie Sambora, *NSYNC and Christina Aguilera will be performing together.

Dave Grohl says: “We were asked to play one of these outdoor shows and it seemed like probably the weirdest request for a gig I’d had in my life. But you can’t refuse the Olympics. I remember being a kid and watching the American hockey team in 1980 on TV. That year the Olympics really got to me, and (goalie) Jim Craig became my hero… I’m bringing my family out, so we’ll stick around. I’ve never been to an Olympics.”
