Live – Ben Kweller Plays A Fun, Addictive, Powerful Rock Show In Chicago

The talented young prodigy Ben Kweller charmed the pants off of the emo kids who were anxious to see their beloved Dashboard Confessional last night at the House of Blues in Chicago. Kweller, who once fronted the post-grunge band Radish in the mid-1990s, quickly recruited the young audience with his spastic acoustic version of Vanilla Iceís claim to fame, ìIce Ice Baby.î Kweller then chucked out jams from his stunning debut album Sha Sha. ìWalk On Me,î ìHow It Should Be,î the orgasmically beautiful keyboard-assisted keeper ìIn Other Words,î the single ìWasted & Ready,î and wrapping the set with the Weezer-esque pop smash ìCommerce, TX.î Kweller, and his live band which consists of ex-Juliana Hatfield and current Dashboard members, showed promise and poise on the stage last night, without any trace of fear or intimidation of the 2,500 plus kids who may or may not have heard of the shy soon-to-be-star. Sha Sha was released in early March on ATO records which is owned by Dave Matthews, who in turn will bring the young scamp on tour with him for a few midwest dates in April. Contact John Biondolillo (ATO) (johnb@atorecords.com) to get down with this gem, or you will be kicking yourself in the face with cleats after you realize what you are missing.
