Social Distortion Dig Into Their Own Pockets To Pay For New LP

Veteran LA-based punk band, Social Distortion hope to release their first album since the untimely death of co-founder Dennis Dannell by the end of the year. According to Billboard, the band has a number of songs ready for the new album and they are currently working on narrowing it down to the best 15 in order to finish them up. Frontman Mike Ness is unsure as to which label the as-yet-untitled new album will be released on, as their last label, Time Bomb, is now defunct. According to Ness, the band will pay for the record themselves and, if necessary, will negotiate their own pressing and distribution deal. He said, “We’re open-minded to shopping around, too. But we realize now that we can make it on our own, and we don’t need a big corporation behind us.” On April 27, Social Distortion will be in Vegas performing at Tony Hawkís interestingly titled Boom Boom HuckJam, which features exhibitions from some of todayís top skateboard, BMX and motocross superstars.

Social Distortion was formed in Orange County, CA in 1979 by two high school pals, Mike Ness and Dennis Dannell. The band has undergone a number of line-up changes over the years but the two co-founders were the backbone, appearing together on every album. However, the new release will be the first Social Distortion record not to feature Dannell, who passed away in the driveway of his Orange County home of a brain aneurysm in 2000. He was 38 years of age.
