British Jury Find Peter Buck Not Guilty In Air Rage Trial

Proving that rock stars are better than average people, Peter Buck walked out of court today a free man. As previously reported, the R.E.M. guitarist was being tried in the U.K. for allegedly going on a drunken rampage last April onboard a British Airways flight from Seattle to London. According to Billboard, Buck was charged with assault, being drunk on an aircraft, and damaging the airlineís crockery. According to the prosecution, Buck consumed 15 glasses of wine, overturned a breakfast trolley, mistook a hostess trolley for a CD player, claimed a stranger was his wife, and tussled with crew members, covering them in yogurt. The prosecution even had the sworn testimony of the crew members on their side, but they couldnít overcome the awesome power of celebrity. Buck simply told the jury that he didnít remember anything that had happened due to an adverse reaction to a sleeping pill. Combine that with some famous friends as character witnesses, namely Bono and Michael Stipe, and youíve got the rock star recipe for acquittal. Well, guess what, a sleeping pill washed down with 15 glasses of wine would knock out Superman, not to mention a middle aged guitar player who doesnít even have x-ray vision or the ability leap tall buildings in a single bound. Hooray for celebrity status!
