Veteran alternative rock superstars, Sonic Youth, have finished the follow-up to 2000ís NYC Ghosts and Flowers and have scheduled a July 2nd release date for the new album. Entitled Murray Street, the upcoming release is the bandís first as a five-piece, as composer and NYC Ghosts and Flowers producer Jim OíRourke signed on full-time last summer. According to Rolling Stone, four of the albumís seven tracks will feature Thurston Moore on vocals. Kim Gordon will lend her singing expertise to a pair of tracks, while Lee Ranaldo will contribute vocals to one. According to the band, the album is more song oriented than classic Youth, and has a definite classic rock element to it. “All five of us love Neil Young,” said OíRourke, “Itís not like weíre trying to do Neil Young, but if a song lands in that vibe we immediately get it.” Sonic Youth are currently planning to tour Europe and North America this summer.
