Soft Boys Readying First Release in 22 Years

Alt-rock pioneers The Soft Boys will release their third studio album, Nextdoorland, on September 24 by way of Matador. The band has not released a proper album since 1980ís Underwater Moonlight, which The Replacements and R.E.M. have both cited as a major influence. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Soft Boys singer Robyn Hitchcock said of the album, “Itís a rock-guitar-bass-drum-harmony record ñ another variant on The Beatles, really. Whenever I make records with a band itís always kind of a Beatles record.” With more than twenty years separating the forthcoming release from their legendary sophomore effort, donít expect to hear many similarities. Hitchcock was sure to let everyone know that on Nextdoorland, he was receiving very different “emotional nutrients” than when he wrote songs for Underwater Music, so the albumís atmosphere is very different. No matter what the case, Iím sure it will spark some serious discussions around the water cooler.
