Kim Coletta, former bass player of Jawbox and owner of DeSoto Records (along with husband Bill Barbot who also played in the Box), announced that after 13 years, DeSoto will close its doors. The D.C.-based label is known for soothing the savage beast locked deep inside indie kids across the globe, as they kicked out amazing albums from Burning Airlines, The Dismemberment Plan, Les Savy Fav, Juno, Shiner, and others. Coletta says, “I’m also thinking of picking up the bass again and seeing what comes of that.” Pitchfork reports that a reissue of Shiner’s Lula Divinia (with two new tracks) will act as the final release for the label, on September 9. Coincidentally, Burning Airlines, brainchild of J. Robbins (also from Jawbox), has been put out to pasture, as well. Robbins has been producing bands like The Promise Ring, Actionslacks, New End Original, and will continue to sit in the booth, in addition to writing some solo material.
