Albarn Speaks But Details on New Album Are Blurry at Best

Gorillaz mastermind and Blur frontman Damon Albarn spoke out last weekend about the long-awaited new album from Blur. “The record itself will definitely be out in January,” said Albarn, speaking with MTV. He continued to say that the band was working with some really interesting producers, namely the Neptunes and Fatboy Slim. Sounds pretty exciting right? The follow-up to 1999’s 13 finally arriving to kick off the new year? Yippee! However, it seems that Mr. Albarn either knows something that all the parties involved don’t, or he was wasted at the time and just enjoys fucking with us.

According to NME, a spokesperson for Blur said yesterday that, despite Damon’s remarks, the album has no definite release date scheduled. Not only that, he also shot down the frontman’s comments about the Neptunes and Fatboy as well, saying that while some producers have been approached, none have been confirmed. The Neptunes mission control said they had been approached, but couldn’t confirm whether the superstar duo had actually taken the project. And, just to make sure that everything Damon said gets contradicted equally, Fatboy Slim recently stated that he wasn’t sure if he was needed for the album following a drunken tiff with Albarn. So, still excited about that new Blur album?
