J Mascis Gets Free So Free on Sophomore Solo Album

J Mascis, the brainchild of Dinosaur Jr., will make the money-hungry record label Gods very unhappy on October 8, when he releases his second solo album, Free So Free. Judging from the title, fans would think, “Since it says FREE twice in the title, I shouldn’t have to pay for it right?” Wrong. Ultimatum Records will kick out the Beantown bandit’s second solo album, which was recorded with band members The Fog in Mascis’ own studio in Amherst, MA. Free So Free, labeled by Pitchforkmedia heads as a “concept album,” is the follow up to Mascis’ 2000 solo debut More Light. Mascis will spend most of October on the road, performing new material for most of the East Coast and some special West Coast dates. The brief jaunt of performances will kick off October 9 in Boston.
