George Harrison To Brainwash the Masses

Legendary Beatles axe-man George Harrison was working on an album before his death last December with his son, Dhani, and Electric Light Orchestra main man Jeff Lynne. That album, posthudubbed Brainwashed, will see release on November 19 through Harrison’s own Dark Horse imprint and EMI. According to Billboard, the album features 11 Harrison originals and a yet-to-be announced cover tune. Brainwashed will be Harrison’s first new studio release since 1987’s number one single-spawning Cloud Nine.

Jeff Lynne said in a statement that “Before we started working on the album, George and Dhani had collaborated extensively on pre-production. George would come round my house and he’d always have a new song with him. He would strum them on a guitar or ukulele. The songs just knocked me out.” One of those knock out songs, the title track in fact, was written about Harrison’s former, sleazy manager. In an interview with Billboard in 1999, Harrison said of that manager, “To have someone sit at your table with your family every night and then betray your trust is one of the worst experiences imaginable.”
