Live – Metric Measure Up To Chicago’s Finest On Windy City Debut

Last night was the second installment of Chicago’s newest and hippest club night, The New New. The intimate room perched atop the Empty Bottle that played host to the event was as crowded as possible by 11:00pm with local and national industry peeps, artists, and local scenesters. It was also the Brooklyn-based quartet Metric’s first trip to Windy City, and they were set on making an impression.

The band’s stunning frontwoman, Emily Haines set the mood as Metric kicked things off with “Hustle Rose.” Haines’ swagger and self-assuredness oozed as she strutted around the room, striking poses and letting her sultry, aggressive vocals ring out. By a minute into that song, Metric already had a hold on the up-close-and-personal crowd, who realized straight away that these cats were no joke. Metric continued to impress throughout their 7-song set and as they played, a steady stream of new faces poured into the crowded second floor bar. They played off of the energy of the room, peaking with “Dead Disco” and a fit of unbridled keyboard destruction by Haines. It would be safe to say that the evening was a success for all parties involved – good music, good fun, good people (good thing I didn’t drive home). Check out the set list below.
