Courtney Love and UMG Make Nice, Nirvana Goodies On The Way

The legal system’s worst nightmare, Courtney Love, has finally reached an agreement with UMG over ownership of unreleased Nirvana material. The highly publicized dispute, which also involved remaining Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, was resolved just a day before the case was scheduled for trial. According to MTV, UMG is now free to release a Nirvana greatest-hits package, a box set, and a rarities album.

What made Love have a change of heart? Well, for starters, in exchange for her permission to release the Nirvana material, Love will be freed up from her contract with Geffen Records, ending yet another one of the singer/actress’ legal disputes. According to MTV, she will also gain ownership of all of her previously recorded material. She didn’t get off totally clean though, as UMG will receive a portion of the royalties from Love’s pending releases. Love is currently recording material with former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Linda Perry. The as-yet-untitled release is expected to be released by the UK-based Poptones record label in January.
