White Stripes Finish New Album, Play Free Show In NYC Today

Drew Goldberg and other White Stripes stalkers rejoice! Your duo is playing a free show in NYC at noon, today, Tuesday, October 1, in Union Square. Most of you will most likely read this too late, but the wise ones amongst you were there rocking out and probably have stories enough for a lifetime. Or not. In further Stripes news, the pair have complete the follow up to their 2001 breakthrough, White Blood Cells. Entitled Elephant, the album has no release date, but, according to the band’s website, the album is done.

“We have finished the making, mixing and mastering of Elephant but won’t let it out of its cage just yet.” In keeping with the animal theme, Jack White continued, “It needs to graze on the plains for a minute. Perhaps it’s not what Meg and I think it is. Perhaps it’s the worst album we’ve ever made. Or perhaps we’ll all be surprised.” Jack finished his message with, “We’ll see, I suppose, but at the time it was a good feeling, and it may come back and roost forever.” Perhaps any of you who saw them today can chime in with your feelings on the new material.
