Shortlist Awards Show Performers Announced

The second annual Shortlist Music Prize will be handed out on October 29 at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, CA. Three of the nominated acts, DJ Shadow, N*E*R*D, and Cee-Lo, have just been announced as the evening’s performers, though the rumor mill is already starting to churn out talk of one or more “surprise” appearances. The fact that Mos Def made an impromptu appearance with former Black Star bandmate Talib Kweli at last year’s event, and the news of The Hives’ lead singer and guitarist booking a flight from Sweden to attend, are providing fuel for the unsubstantiated rumor flame.

All three of the evening’s scheduled performers are nominees for the Shortlist Prize, as are Doves, Flaming Lips, Zero 7, the Avalanches, Aphex Twin, Bjork, and The Hives. According to Pollstar, the 24 “Listmakers,” including Iggy Pop, Beck, Mos Def, Damon Albarn, and Spike Jonze, will meet in a private room two hours prior to the concert to select the winner of the 2002 prize. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the evening.
