Chris Martin, Noel Gallagher Perform 4-Song Duet At Charity Benefit

The Play Fair benefit held in London last night took a turn for the special when a number of the performers took the stage together in separate duet scenarios. The benefit featured a bill of Noel Gallagher, Idlewild, Lamb, and, “special guests”, which ended up including Coldplay and Mercury Music Prize winner Ms. Dynamite. Gallagher did a five-song set of Oasis favorites before yielding the stage to the unannounced Coldplay, who played three tunes of their own before being joined on stage by Ms. Dynamite. They performed a duet on her songs “Dy-Na-Mi-Tee” and “It Takes More,” as well as a cover of “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley.

It was now time for the main event, however, as Dynamite left the stage, only to be replaced by the reappearing Gallagher who stayed on stage for four songs, joining up with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin on two Oasis tracks, “Whatever” and “Live Forever,” the Coldplay standby “Yellow” and a seemingly excellent rendition of “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” by The Smiths. The event was thrown together by Glastonbury main man Michael Eavis’ daughter Emily, to benefit Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign, and I sure hope she had the recording rights to the amazing event.
