Goddamn That DJ Made My Day

Jam Master Jay is dead and for what? How could something like this happen and why? How many times do these questions have to be asked, when a giant in the music world tragically falls? The legendary DJ influenced thousands of aspiring turntablists and cut creators across the globe and his life was taken with one fatal shot…and for what? He was a father, a husband, a friend to the hip-hop community, and I will miss him. When I was growing up, Raising Hell was the soundtrack for our elementary/middle school. Not for just fans of ìrap,î or my grade, but our entire school bought that record and listened to it everyday on the bus. I listened to it so much, that my dad knew the songs. Run-DMC, with Jayís visionary style and samples, changed my life and I am proud to say that. What happened last night is vile and while our president is trying to elimate the pyscho killers in the middle east, this kind of cowardly act reminds me of just how unsafe we all are even in our own backyard. A studio, to a man like Jay, is his home. He was murdered in his home. I donít know all of the details, but I know that hateful violence has once again struck down a king of rock and it makes me sick. My heart goes out to his family and to his crew. No matter what goes down, no matter how much stupid shit we all have to step through, remember “The turntables might wobble but they won’t fall down.”
