Bono, Shaggy & Macy Gray To Play South African AIDS Benefit

Nelson Mandela is hosting a benefit concert on in his homeland early next year and the ex-president of South Africa has already brought on board some heavy hitters. Expected to perform at the February 2 gig are Bono, Shaggy and Macy Gray. Mandela has also extended invitations to Michael and Janet Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Bob Dylan and Sting. The benefit will raise money for AIDS victims all across Africa and will be held on Robben Island, which was once a prison for the victims of apartheid; Mandela himself spent almost 20 years there before being released and taking the reigns of the country. The announcement was made last week and amongst the attendees were Desmond Tutu and Oprah Winfrey as well as event main sponsor Diesel president, Renzo Russo, while Richard Branson and Naomi Campbell sent their well-wishes by satellite.
