Letter To The Editor: In Response To “Moby Gets His Ass Kicked”

The following comments were submitted to The Tripwire by Jonathan Keith (WRZX) regarding Thursday’s Moby story:

matt dufour’s report on the moby attack was in very poor taste. i’m all for irreverant piss-takes on celebrities, but glorifying violence (after the show, “the fun really began.”) is inexcusable. the headline itself, “moby gets his ass kicked” is at best insensitive. moby is a shy little defenseless guy who doesn’t bother anybody. bullies like eminem who take advantage of his gentle nature are deranged. i feel your report does likewise. moby is a self-deprecating person; however, that doesn’t excuse a flippant approach to a report of an act of violence on him. we live in an increasingly violent world and are on the brink of world war, but we must never allow ourselves to become desensitized to violence of any kind. a responsible journalistic voice should embrace any opportunity to decry such behavior. as a footnote, the piece also refers to moby as a “DJ”, which is inaccurate. he hasn’t really DJed in ten years.
