White Stripes Christmas Single Now Set For Release By V2

“Candy Cane Children,” a song recorded by The White Stripes in 1998 as part of Flying Bomb Records’ Surprise Package Volume 2, was initially slated for re-release by the indie label this holiday season. The song was to be the final track on this year’s Surprise Package: The Collector’s Edition, but a dispute over ownership has forced Flying Bomb to remove the track from the compilation altogether. As a result, V2, The White Stripes’ current US label, has decided to release the track themselves, and will be dropping it as a single sometime in the near future. According to Pitchfork, if the V2 release is anything like the limited edition 7″ singles XL is releasing in the UK, it will also feature Jack White reading a passage from the Bible on the “Gift of the Magi,” and Meg White singing “Silent Night.” A release date has yet to be announced, but keep your eyes peeled. We will, of course, give you the head’s up when the info becomes available.
