South African AIDS Benefit Concert Called Off

In troubling news, the AIDS benefit concert planned by Nelson Mandela in South Africa has been canceled. The ex-South African president had to pull the plug on the event, due to be held on Robben Island (where he was once imprisoned) and set to feature performances from Bono, Coldplay, Ms Dynamite, Shaggy and Macy Gray, after production and sponsorship issues could not be cleared up. Evidently, the producer for the event did not line up sufficient sponsorship or TV rights to spread the message of the show worldwide, as Mandela had expected. Good one. They are now working on another concert, perhaps to be held in the summer, that will be televised worldwide and will raise money for the United Nations AIDS fund, as well as the Robben Island Museum and The Nelson Mandela Foundation.
