The Dismemberment Plan DisMANTLE…ment…Plan

Sadness sailed through the D.C. indie scene when rock/funk-mobsters The Dismemberment Plan announced they will disband after nearly a decade, when their winter tour wraps up. Bassist Eric Axelson (Aaron Live105ís cousinís, brotherís, nephewís, uncle) posted the following “reason” on their official site, “the best answer we can come up with is that we felt like we’d accomplished all we could as a songwriting and record making unit, and that we wanted– as individuals– to try things that can be precluded by living the lifestyle of the touring musician.” The band’s last offering, Change, was nothing short of amazing, as critics everywhere placed the record in their various Top 10 2001 lists.

Singer Travis Morrison plans to venture on a solo path in April, laying down tracks of his own and possibly rework some discarded Plan songs from the last recording session. The Plan will collectively release a remix album of their best material, twisted and reshaped by their biggest fans, and they havenít ruled out scheduling a tour in the Spring. So…did you guys really break up, or are you just continuing to have sex without the “boyfriend/girlfriend” label?
