Weird Scenes Inside The Courtroom: New Doors Lineup Under Fire

Yesterday, February 4, a multiple-court suit was filed against the recent re-incarnation of The Doors. The plaintiff in the case is none other than original drummer and founding member of the legendary group, John Densmore. According to Billboard, Densmore’s suit was also filed on behalf of the estate of Jim Morrison, and claims that written and oral agreements prevent anyone, except the original band members, to use The Doors name and logo. Surviving co-founders Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger have played a handful of shows recently as The Doors with Ian Astbury (The Cult) and Stewart Copeland (The Police) filling in for Densmore and Morrison.

Manzarek previously stated that John Densmore was not touring with the band due to his affliction with the hearing disease tinnitus. However, Densmore has fully recovered and although he will be performing over the weekend for a public school benefit, the drummer is not interested in performing with the “new” Doors. Densmore said, “Who can fill Jim’s leather pants? The Doors is John, Jim, Ray, and Robby. It’s not Ray, Robby, Stewart, and Ian.” Densmore is seeking unspecified damages, but claims that he is not interested in the money. He simply wants the band to change their name.
