Who Let The Elephant Out? V2 Pushes Up White Stripes Release

Although V2 had taken anti-piracy measures, the inevitable has happened ñ The White Stripes new album, Elephant, is currently available for download (in its entirety) on the web. The highly anticipated new album, originally scheduled to be released on April 15 in US, has been given a new street date of April 1 to combat the music thievery. NME (kind of) points the finger at Stateside journalists for the leak, saying, “copies were sent to journalists in the US two weeks ago, and the leak may have started there.” Vinyl promo copies of Elephant were handed out only to a handful of media outlets to help prevent such a leak. No CD versions were given out for promotional purposes, and while the vinyl looked pretty fucking cool, it was ultimately unsuccessful in stopping the unauthorized release of the album into the worldwide marketplace. It was worth a try.

As previously reported, The White Stripes have been confirmed for the fourth annual Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The event takes place from April 26-27 in Indio, California.
