Metallica Grabs Rob Trujillo To Fill Bassist Role

The bassist-less ship that is Metallica has been righted. Since Jason Newsted left the ultimate metal act at the start of 2001, the Bay Area boys have been a trio, relying on producer extraordinaire Bob Rock to step in when need be (secret show at tiny SF club in summer of 2003, impromptu gig in Oakland Raiders parking lot in this year’s playoffs, to name two). Now, the band is once again a quartet with the inclusion of ex-Suicidal Tendencies 4-stringer Rob Trujillo. Trujillo had initially been scheduled to rock on with Ozzy for all the Ozzfest dates this summer, but I guess the opportunity to join the world’s pre-eminent metal act was just too much to pass up. Trujillo, who was at the studio for much of the recording of the band’s new album, St. Anger, due out June 10 on Elektra, has a couple of months to learn all the band’s songs before they head out on their Summer Sanitarium Tour this summer.
