Honestly, the ’90s were Billy Corgan’s time. Throughout the decade, he stuck to his guns no matter what other bands and trends shifted and changed. But by the end of those years, it did seem that once Adore and subsequent records reached audiences, neither the fans nor Corgan himself really cared anymore. Zwan is not the same Billy that ended the Pumpkins. On this night, it was obvious that Corgan has been rejuvenated in his hunger for the spotlight and his excitement for rock & roll. From the first note, the entire Zwan crew came out with guns blazing and a full frontal guitar assault. Finishing the opener with a Sabbath-esque onslaught of bass and drums veiled in a wash of guitar back-and-forth, the band proved right away that the lack of energetic force of Corgan’s past was not to be re-visited by Zwan. From that point on, the band flirted with 10-minute feedback excursions, and playful band member interchanges that define both this band’s attitude as well as their debutís strongest attribute. As the band floated through their debut’s material, the fans both old and new were contented by the love vibe and psychedelic arena rock poses and sounds. Billy’s definitely not gloomy anymore, and this obviously makes for the best Billy in years.
