FADER magazine and Rough Trade America popped the proverbial cork on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 to celebrate the Kills’ sold-out record release show at the Mercury Lounge. Following the band’s performance, a solid crew of 300 strong rolled down the block for an after-party at the Lower East Side hipster hangout, Pianos. As guests exchanged their drink tickets for mixed margaritas and shots of Cuervo1800 Tequila, DJ Greg Poole (of Wikkid Crew fame) took over the 1 and 2s and brought the crowd vastly assorted jams from Clinic and The Streets to 50 Cent and Suicidal Tendencies in the span of a mere two hours.
Scenestars such as Nick Zinner from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Creation Records/Poptones’ Alan McGee, superstar producer Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck), Jon Spencer, Christina Martinez and Nick Valensi of The Strokes all rolled through to wish FADER and The Kills well and uh, get loaded. And now you know why all of your hip co-workers showed up an hour late for work yesterday.
