Sum 41 and Avril Lavigne: what do these two artists have in common? At first you’d guess, uh, “Canadian” or “pop acts.” Korn and Limp Bizkit: how about them? “Nu-metal,” the peanut gallery screams! But now combine the two and what could all four have in common? That’s right, they are all onboard for MTV’s annual mtvICON special, this time in celebration of the influence of Metallica. This is the third year the event has taken place, with previous offerings held in honor of Aerosmith and Janet Jackson. The four bands are expected to perform Metallica covers and discuss how the seminal artist affected them and their respective careers. The event, which will tape in LA and be broadcast on May 6, will also feature a live performance from the new look band of the hour,with new bassist Robert Trujillo in full effect.
