Friday Express – New Queens Album?, Coxon Disses Think Tank

It’s not enough for them to be everyone’s favorite gurney, sludge rock pigs. It’s not enough for them to have released an album last year that was critically acclaimed and has been on the SoundScan chart since its release, 31 weeks ago. No, Queens Of The Stone Age also want to be prolific as rabbits. Just over half a year on from the release of the mayhemtastic Songs For The Deaf, Queens masterminds Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri have announced that they have written enough material for another two albums! 20 songs have been written, but with their Lollapalooza dates and European tours planned, they have no clue when they will be able to record. They’ve got their eyes on a fall studio session with the album out in early 2004. Rock on!

Aw, aren’t band spats fun?!? We all like a good mudslinging, so it’s nice of ex-Blur axeman Graham Coxon to oblige. In an interview with Teletext, Coxon was asked what he thought of his old band’s new work, Think Tank. He exclaimed that he was “very glad” not to be in Blur any longer after hearing what he thought was an “underdeveloped and tech-y” album. When asked if he’ll go to their set of London shows, he continued,

“I’d like to see if it works. I’ll go if I don’t have anything I’d rather do instead.” So it’s Graham Coxon 1 – Blur 0. A retort, Damon?
