Cheap Trick Drop Special New Album This Summer

It’s been six years since veteran rockers Cheap Trick have released an album of new material, but this summer the wait will finally be over. On July 8, Cheap Trick will drop Special One via the band’s own Cheap Trick Unlimited label along with a new licensing agreement with BIG3 Records. Billboard reports that the BIG 3 deal will also give the label rights to four of the band’s more recent releases, Cheap Trick II, In Color, Woke Up With A Monster, Silver, and Music For Hangovers. A host of very diverse big-name producers have lent their skills to Special One, including Dan The Automator (Gorillaz, Ben Lee, Cornershop), Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith), and hometown ¸berfan Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies).

Frontman Robin Zander said of the new album, “This is probably the most musically diverse record we’ve ever recorded. We love all sorts of music and there is a little bit of everything on this record.”

Cheap Trick may be getting up there in years, but they’ve got quite a busy summer tour schedule. They’re pretty much playing straight through until October, with a brief trip to Japan in there somewhere. Check out the band’s official website for their full itinerary because there are just too many dates to list here.
