MTV’s music-centric alter ego, MTV2, has revealed some details surrounding its spring/summer programming schedule. A host of new programs (and one old) will be making their way to the cable network’s airwaves next month. The first new program to air will be a weekly new music show called Subterranean that will premiere on May 9 with a guest appearance by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. A UK spin-off version called Subterranean UK will air just once a month and will premiere on May 11. Another notable addition to MTV2 will be the return of Headbangers Ball, which was pulled off MTV in 1994. The revived version of the program will debut on May 10 with Metallica guest hosting.
According to Billboard, a DJ-inspired dance show called Monster Mix will mix together a number of music videos. That program will debut on May 24 with a special entitled The Remix Saved My Life.
Sucker Free Sundays, an eight-hour block of R&B/hip-hop programming will kick off on May 11 at Noon ET. 50 Cent, Ludacris, and Busta Rhymes are all lined to guest host the program.
A show that features artists commenting on music videos, called Track 2, as well as the Short Attention Span Video Show (plays 30 videos in 30 minutes) will both make their way to the MTV2 airwaves later this summer.
MTV2 also has some other killer shit lined up for June. Radiohead will perform a 2$Bill show from NYC’s Beacon Theater that will air June 17. The show will be recorded a day prior to the band’s headlining spot at Long Island’s Field Day Festival. According to Billboard, that show will air exclusively on MTV2, and not on MTV as previously thought. The network is also planning to have live coverage of the Field Day Festival itself from June 7-8.
