Former Bowery Electric Star Returns With New Album

Taking the name Echostar, the former frontwoman of NYC-based indie-dance band Bowery Electric, Martha Schwendener, is gearing up for the release of a new album. On July 1, Shadow Records will release SOLA, Schwendener’s first album under the new moniker. Compared to such laptop soul artists as Goldfrapp and Low, Echostar leaves behind Schwendener’s indie rock entanglements to explore the more spaced-out world of rich sonic tapestries and atmospheric bliss.

Bowery Electric was a collaboration between Schwendener and partner Lawrence Chandler. They blended the worlds of indie rock and electronica and over the years, dropped three albums and a number of EPs and remixes to high praise from the likes of Melody Maker, Wire, and Magnet.
