As a strategic player in 9,467 different charities, human rights movements, and other noble causes, U2 frontman Bono has ruffled some feathers. Over the past two years, Bono has accumulated 24 death threat letters. According to Launch, the letters make reference to the star’s involvement with AIDS prevention and famine in Africa, as well as his championing of the dissolution of Third World debt. “You have been warned and you and your do-gooder friends had better watch out. Fuck the foreigners and help your own people,” read one of the letters. “If this carries on you will end up in a box,” read another.
Scotland Yard has been called in to investigate the issue and the British Royal Mail has launched their own investigation as well. No word yet on whether Sherlock Holmes will be on board. Bono has not spoken out in regards to the threats, but UK newspaper the Sunday Mirror quoted a close friend of the U2 frontman as saying, “He is a key player in the campaign to end Third World debt, and will not be silenced by death threats.” Godspeed Mr. Bono!
